The Woman Doctors' Wing of Vadakara (then called WIMA) was inaugurated on 27.05.2004 by Dr P A Lalitha, the then state chairperson of women's wing. Dr Jeena Baburaj was the founder chairperson; Dr Sasikala Muraleedharan, the secretary and Dr Savithri Hariprasad was the initial treasurer. WDW, over the years has organised and orchestrated many medical, social and cultural programmes individually and in association with IMA. In addition to the women doctors of Vadakara,WDW also has the female spouses of doctors of Vadakara as it's associative members. This indeed has helped in rendering a homely atmosphere by bringing the families together. The name WIMA was changed to WDW during the 2018-19 term in accordance with the National branch recommendations.
WDW Vadakara was awarded the Third best branch at the state level during the 2018-19 term under the leadership of Chairperson Dr Amritha MK, secretary Dr Anuji P Supran and treasurer Dr Santhakumari S.
The term saw a plethora of never before activities including Self defence classes, health and educational classes, camps, designing competitions, Movie clubs and technological classes. During the same year, WDW hosted "JANANI-2019", the international women's day celebration of WDW-Kerala state branch which was inaugurated by the then IMA president Dr M E Sugathan and presided by WDW State chairperson Dr Kochu S Mani.
