The Vatakara branch of IMA is one of the most active branches of the Indian medical Association of kerala state .It has a glorious history of outstanding contributions to the medical fraternity and to the community for more than four decades The vadakara branch (Originally badagara) was formed on 28th march 1971. DR Jamaludheen Mailanchi, Dr.P.P. Balakrishna, Dr. T. V.N.Nambiar DR. K. chacko,Dr.K.C.Pavithran and DR. P.V.George where the doctors who gave leadership in organising Vatakara IMA.This meeting elected Dr.P.P.Padmanabhan as the founder President and Dr.K.K.Muhammed as the secretetary.There were 22 members to begin with The Vatakara branch was officially inaugurated on 22 and August 1971 by the then president of ima, kerala state branch Dr.T.A.Kesavan Nair.Since its inception,the office bearers and members of successive years have shouldered great responsibility in carrying out IMA activities in a splendid way and brought name and fame to this branch sacrificing their precious time and energy. They deserve recognition for the yeoman Services that they have memedered.At present IMA Catamaran has 300 members.

A building committee was formed during the year1991- 92 with Dr.A.K.Rajan as chairman and president & secretary of corresponding year as the ex officio members. Dr.V.M.Kunhimoosa,Dr.T.A.Sreenivasan,Dr.Sachidanandan,Dr.C.Prakash,Dr.C.Vijayaraghavan, Dr.KM.Abdulla and Dr.K.M.DamodaraPanickerwere the members. 16 cents of land was purchased on 27 .04 1994 when Dr.A.T.Vijayan was President and Dr.K.Mummed was the secretary.Foundation stone was layed on 25 6 1995 by Dr.U.V Seethi, then IMA Kerala state president. IMA hall was inaugurated by former National president of IMA Dr.V.C.Velayudhan on 3rd May 1998 .President Dr.T.A Sreenivasan and Dr. Premanand( secretary) spend the time and energy with devotion and determination in fulfilling the dream project.Latter modifications were made by constructing an executive hall in the first floor,dining hall and office room. Now the IMA hall is the epicenter of all activities of the branch

Conducted the 10th North Zone conference ''KALARI''(2004).
IMA CGP/IMA AMS were inaugurated. Dr C.K Anandan was the Chairman.Dr.C.M.Ansar was the editor of the Souvenir 52nd IMA state conference was hoisted by Vadagara Branch on 13th, 14th, and 15th of November 2009 at Gokulam Public School. Woman Doctor's Wing of Vadagara was inaugurated by Dr.P A Lalitha ,the then chairperson of Kerala State branch of women's wing.Dr.Jeena Baburaj was the founder Chairperson and Dr Shasikala Muraleedharan was the secretary and Savithri Hariprasad was the treasurer Women's wing organised a lot of programs bringing the family members closer and create a homely atmosphere with in the organisation. They supported all the cultural activities of the branch. Woman Doctors wing ofVatakara branch of IMA was recognised as the third best wdw branch of Kerala state in 2019. Dr.Amrutha was the president and Dr.Anuji Supran was the secretary during this period.
Arts club was inaugurated by the famous singer Shri VT Murali.Dr.V.R.Suresh was the president and Mrs Dolly Saseendran was the secretary.The arts club along with womens wing presented many memorable cultural events. The programmes presented during Christmas and New Year Eve were fully telecast by the local television channel.Arts club members participated in state level cultural events of IMA.
